house mate
Shared expenses for people who share a home.
Log what you paid, see who owes whom, and settle up once a month. Everything stays on your phones and syncs directly between housemates over your own Wi-Fi — no servers, no accounts, no ads. Made in Vietnam, in Vietnamese and English.

What it does
-
Log expenses & split fairly
Rent, groceries, the electricity bill. Choose who shared it and house mate works out each person’s part. Equal splits in đồng round to ₫1,000, so nobody is asked for ₫33,333.33.
-
Settle once a month
The house leader closes the month — “Settle September” — and the app lists who sends what to the leader and what the leader pays out. Tick each transfer “received” and the month files itself under Past months.
-
Works offline
The whole ledger lives on your phone. Add expenses anywhere — on the bus, in a basement, on a flight. Nothing waits for a connection.
-
Syncs over your Wi-Fi only
When housemates are on the same network, your phones exchange changes directly, encrypted in transit. No cloud in between, ever.
How Wi-Fi sync works
house mate has no cloud and nothing to type. Your phones find each other.
-
Create a house
One housemate creates the house on their phone and becomes its house leader — the only person who can add members.
-
Add housemates over Wi-Fi
The leader opens House → Add member over Wi-Fi. A housemate on the same Wi-Fi opens house mate and taps Join a house over Wi-Fi. The two phones see each other by name; the leader taps Add (or the housemate taps Join and the leader confirms). Nobody joins without the leader’s tap.
-
Sync whenever you’re home together
When two housemates’ phones are on the same network with the app open, they exchange changes directly, encrypted in transit. Changes made while apart wait on your phone and merge the next time you’re together.
iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time. house mate uses it only to find and talk to your housemates’ phones — nothing else. Why sync needs Local Network.
How settling up works
One person closes the month, so money moves in as few transfers as possible.
-
Log expenses as they happen
Housemates add expenses through the month and choose who shared each one. Balances update on every phone as they sync.
-
The house leader settles the month
At the end of the month the leader taps Settle September. The app shows one transfer per housemate: anyone with a negative balance sends money to the leader, and the leader pays everyone with a positive balance.
-
Pay, then tick “received”
Pay however you like — bank transfer, cash. Each transfer is ticked received once it arrives. The closed month lives under Past months, and a fresh month begins.
Someone moved out? The leader removes them from the house. Expenses they were part of stay in the ledger, so past months still add up.
